Shop with a Cop benefitting members of Boys and Girls Club

Members of the Boys and Girls Club of the Gulf Coast received an early Christmas present: a hundred-dollar shopping spree at Academy Sports and Outdoors.

Twenty-six children were hand selected to ‘shop with a cop’ at Academy in Gulfport. Each child was given a gift card and paired up with a local deputy to roam the aisles.

With the help of the deputy, children were set free to purchase something for themselves or Christmas presents for friends and family members.

For Lt. Robert Lincoln, this experience is about building a strong bond with these children by spreading Christmas cheer. “Man, I’m ringing a bell today! This is the Christmas spirit that you can’t buy. This is just a chance for us to reach out to these kids and really speak into their lives and that’s fantastic. You don’t get an opportunity like that every day.”

When the children went over their limit on purchases, like a bike and helmet, many deputies stepped up to pay the difference.
