Shooting at Colorado Planned Parenthood
A shootout at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs is over. Three people, including a police officer, were killed in the standoff.
Police say the gunman surrendered this afternoon and is now in custody. Officials have not identified him. The standoff between the gunman and officers at the clinic lasted for hours. Police say 11 people, including five officers, were taken to the hospital.
During the standoff, some people were evacuated to a nearby building in the blowing snow. Others at a nearby shopping mall were told to take shelter and stay put. Lieutenant Catherine Buckley with Colorado Springs Police Department said, “We did get officers inside of the building at the Planned Parenthood. The officers were able to shout to the suspect and make communication with him. At that point, they were able to get him to surrender and he was taken into custody.”
Investigators say it will take a while to clear the crime scene because the gunman brought items with him that were left inside and outside the building.
