Ship Island Service to Return to Biloxi
A Ship Island ferry service is on its way to Biloxi. All it needs is a signature to start construction.
A new Ship Island pier will be built in East Biloxi. The first step for it to become a reality is in motion after the Biloxi City Council approved the funding for the project at City Hall today. The city plans to put the pier between Margaritaville and Harrah’s in the Point Cadet Marina.
Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich says bringing residents and tourists another option to get to Ship Island can only benefit the community. “Just looking at the parking requirements, on weekends we have about 400 cars here, that means people are down here spending money, sales tax and visiting some of our other facilities, tourism facilities.”
The paper work for the project is on its way to the secretary of state. The city is just waiting for a signature to get the project moving.
The Ship Island vessel pier is a $165,000 project. City officials say they hope the ferry service will be up and running this spring.
