HORN ISLAND, Miss. (WXXV)– Jackson County officials have released a few new details on the body found Monday morning on Horn Island, as crews from numerous agencies searched the island for missing teenager Nolan Wells.

Both Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter and Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. say the body matches the description of Wells, but that official positive identification will be made through DNA testing at the state medical examiner’s office.

Lynd Jr. says those results should be released sometime Tuesday morning.

The body was found around 8:45 a.m. Monday by a park ranger on the western tip of Horn Island, as crews from numerous law enforcement and volunteer agencies continued the search for Wells.

Sheriff Ledbetter says he and his team have been in constant communication with Wells’ family as new developments continue to come in.

This is still a developing story, and we’ll continue to update you here on WXXV25.com as new details come in.
