Shea Dobson wins Ocean Springs mayoral election
After a very heated election, there will be a new mayor in Ocean Springs.
Republican Shea Dobson upset three term incumbent Mayor Connie Moran with 55 percent of the votes. The 31-year-old won by nearly 400 votes.
The Roost Hotel in Ocean Springs erupted with celebration when the final results came in from last night’s general election. Dobson says having a presence on social media and knocking on doors contributed to his victory over Moran, who has been mayor of Ocean Springs since 2005.
News 25 caught up with Dobson just after the results came in to hear his plans for the city. “I’m just going to get back to the basics. You aren’t going to have a lot of flash from me. I’m going to be full-time. I’m just going to keep my head down and get to work. I’m just going to do what’s right for the city and do what needs to be done.”
Last night’s numbers came in with Dobson having 1,951 votes and Moran’s votes tallying at 1,574. Dobson will take office July 1st.
