Seventh annual MGCCC Scholarship Gala

Tonight in Biloxi, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College acknowledged seven years of partnership with local industry at their annual scholarship gala.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is celebrating seven years of excellence in education with their annual scholarship gala at the Beau Rivage Casino Resort in Biloxi. The event is responsible for generating nearly $400,000 in scholarships for students each year.
MGCCC uses this event not only to generate additional support, but they’re also tipping their cap to those that already assist them in fulfilling their mission right here on the Gulf Coast. MGCCC President Dr. Mary Graham said, “We do training for Ingalls, Chevron, Mississippi Power, all the larger companies along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We find ourselves in great partnership with them and in turn they support things like our gala because they know the scholarships go towards students who ultimately may be employed with their different companies.”
Those attending invest their money in higher education through a silent auction, in turn creating a mutually beneficial future for their companies, MGCCC, and future students. Mississippi Power Coastal Division Manager Tommy Murphy said, “In order for us to recruit industry to the area, we have to have a strong workforce and MGCCC has been such a great partner in helping us develop students and get people ready for that workforce.”
Todd Trenchard with the Bacot-McCarty Foundation said, “This event here has just gotten bigger and bigger each year. More and more scholarships are being awarded by local businesses and organizations like ours and you just couldn’t have a better scenario than what we have here down on the Gulf Coast.”
