Sentences issued in Mary Mahoney’s mislabeled seafood case
A notable Coast restaurant and one of its co-owners are sentenced in federal court on Monday for passing off imported seafood as Gulf Fresh Seafood.
According to our media partner, the Sun Herald, Mary Mahoney’s restaurant also agreed to forfeit $1.35 million.
Meanwhile, Mary Mahoney’s co-owner Tony Cvitanovich has been sentenced to four months of home confinement, three years’ probation, and a $10,000 fine.
The restaurant and Cvitanovich say federal prosecutors calculated Mary Mahoney’s served more than 55,000 mislabeled meals and was buying foreign fish from another Biloxi business, Quality Poultry and Seafood.
Cvitanovich and other restaurant leaders apologized in court for their role in the mislabeling of seafood.
As for Quality Poultry and Seafood, the business is set for sentencing on December 11th.
