A sense of justice for Trevues Martin
The family of Trevues Martin feels a sense of justice today after the two day murder trial of DeAndre Ball ended with a guilty verdict.
Ball has been convicted of first-degree murder and has been sentenced to life in prison.
Surrounding his grave, Trevues Martin’s mother and girlfriend told him that justice has finally been served. DeAndre Ball shot Martin on the eve of his 21st birthday and Wednesday evening he was found guilty of first-degree murder. Trevues’ mother Tasha Martin said, “I have justice now. I mean, I just feel so much relief. I can breathe again.”
For Martin’s loved ones it’s been a long journey, but once they heard that guilty verdict, relief came. “I can’t even express how I feel really because it was all so complicated. It was so frustrating. It was tiresome. I mean, it took so long, but look at what we got out of it.”
Deandrea Cohea, Trevues’ girlfriend, was in the same car where Trevues was shot that September night in 2016, she says that night will always be in her mind. Martin had just recently gotten out of jail, but was ready to change his path. “Before the car got shot up, he was telling me how much he loved his family and how much he was trying to change and how he wanted to be a better man.”
Cohea says she will remember Trevues as her hero because when Ball started shooting at the car they were in, he covered her so she couldn’t get hit. “Trevues, he saved my life. So, no, nothing. There is nothing that can replace that. He could have done a million things. He could have left me in that car. He could have got out and left. He stayed down. He got on top of me and made sure I was straight.”
Even with these hard memories, this guilty verdict brings a sense of closure to their lives and gives them hope for the future. “I’m blessed. My family is blessed and now my son can rest.”
