Seniors have lunch with cops to better community

Part of being a safer community starts with being able to depend on the law enforcement agencies that protect it.
That’s what a group of senior citizens at the Pascagoula Senior Center say they were learning this afternoon. The senior center was full of police chiefs and law enforcement officials from all over Jackson County. The program was a tribute of appreciation for those who devote their time to helping it stay safe.
Seniors were also given information on how to better their community. Moss Point resident Earnestine Macmillan said, “We have people that are willing and able to call for help from law enforcement. You shouldn’t fear the police. They are here to help us and to make our places of living safer.”
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “When we’re able to do things like this together and continue to form stronger relationships with each other but with the community, that’s what our goal is. So that when these folks call in, we’re coming and we’re going to help them when we get there.”
The Jackson County sheriff, district attorney’s office, and police chiefs from county cities were all awarded with certificates at the end of the program.
