Senior Village kick off day at Diamondhead City Hall

King cake, pizza, and faces full of glitter helped kick off sign-up day for the Diamondhead Senior Village to Village Program.

The Village, a community gathering, will have different activities for seniors at city hall on Tuesdays and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.

There are more than 500 such organizations across the U.S. using this same model with Diamondhead boasting more than 3,000 senior citizens among its residents.

Mayor Nancy Depreo says it seemed liked Diamondhead would be the perfect place to start one in Mississippi.

Over the next six months, residents are encouraged to fill out surveys on what they are interested in doing during the week. Mayor Depreo said, “Every table is filled with residents. So, we’re hoping it’s a big success and we’re very excited to have a place in Diamondhead for senior residents to come and socialize and have a good time while socializing.”
