Senior Resources Outreach Center Opens in Harrison County
A new outreach center on the Coast has opened its doors to the needy and now they are looking for your help.
The Harrison County Senior Resources Outreach Center opened last week with one goal: to help those in need. The center is not open to the public, but Coast nonprofits like CASA, the Department of Health Services, the youth courts and others are able to bring in people.
The center was brought about by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors with the hope that the needs of everyone from infants to seniors will be met at the center. Just a week ago, two seniors had their wheelchairs stolen, putting wheelchairs and food at the top of the requested donations list. Director of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program Mag Holland said, “We want them to know if you have an extra wheelchair or if you have an extra shower chair we could use it or gently used clothing or shoes that could go for children. We need all the donations. One of the main things we’re needing right now is food. Our food pantry just can’t stay packed. I mean, we just need more food all the time. We just can’t keep up with that.”
If you have donations including non-perishable food items, please call 228-896-0412.
