Senior living home Summerfield offers caregiver support group

Senior living home Summerfield is offering a new support group catered to family caregivers with loved ones going through memory living.

The Summerfield team works with Home Instead to offer this group which focuses on helping caregivers in the sandwich generation cope with the stress of multi-generational caregiving.

Members of the sandwich generation are defined as those who take care of both young children and parents in memory care.

Attendees are given opportunities to learn how to manage time to reduce stress as well as to share stories of their struggles to remind them that they are not alone. Summerfield Community Relation Director Susan Jones said, “If we can help them walk that path and kind of help them understand what may be coming up next and what to expect, I think it helps them have that information so that it makes it a little bit easier to deal with.”

The support group meets about once a month and is free for anyone to join. Call Summerfield at 228-678-1100 to learn more.
