Senator Wicker stops by Harrison Co. Republican Club
U.S. Senator Roger Wicker stopped by the Harrison County Republican Club Meeting in Gulfport today, updating members on what congress is doing up in Washington D.C.
As chairman of the Seapower Subcommittee, Senator Wicker said he’s excited to preside over a plan to help President Trump’s promise to increase our Navy from about 274 ships to 355. He believes it is not only essential for national security, but also important to our economy and specifically for our shipbuilding industry here in South Mississippi.
He also touched on the congressional Republicans repeal of more than a dozen regulations put in place by the Obama administration, saying he believes this will make way for more job creation. “We’ve had one percent economic growth, that’s not enough to get the United States where it needs to be. That’s not what we except as Americans. We need three percent GDP growth every year, four percent growth in our economy. That would be more like it. To do that, we’re going to have to unshackle the people who actually hire Americans in the private sector.”
Senator Wicker tells News 25 presiding over the shipbuilding plan is one of his number one priorities for this year.
