Senator Wicker Against Bathroom Guidance

School may be out, but the conversation surrounding the restrooms inside them continues to rule the summer.
Recently, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker spoke out against the Obama Administration’s recent guidance to public schools regarding Title IX protections. That guidance asks all public schools to allow transgender students to use the restrooms that matched their gender identities, instead of their biological genders.
If schools do not follow this, they risk losing government-aided funding. Senator Wicker tells News 25 withholding funds for this reason is simply wrong. “They call it guidance rather than a regulation, but they also threaten to withhold federal funds and that’s not right and that’s what we were pointing out. The federal government has no right in this area to withhold funds. Let’s see how local school districts handle it and I think they’ll be able to do it in those rare instances.”
Senator Wicker says ultimately the responsibility should fall on the schools to handle those situations case by case, not the federal government.
