Senator Roger Wicker warns Mississippi residents to make sure ID meets new standard for air travel

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker is getting the word out about a new federal requirement set to go into effect, warning his Mississippi constituents about the upcoming deadline for real ID, which could affect your travel plans.

Senator wicker says all Mississippians need to check their licenses before a federal requirement goes into effect next year that may come as a surprise to some air travelers.

Starting on October 1st, 2020, all those boarding commercial airplanes will be required to have identification that meets new real ID security standards.

Those without this updated form of identification could be turned away at the airport once this federal regulation goes into effect in 2020.

To avoid missing a future flight, senator wicker urges everyone to take time now to ensure they have a valid form of ID that complies with the requirements.

For most travelers this means making sure they have a valid passport or an updated driver’s license.

To check and see if your Mississippi license is up-to-date, just see if your license includes a white star surrounded by a gold circle in the upper-right corner.
