Senator Jeremy England talks high priorities for Mississippi congress
The Mississippi legislature will convene on Tuesday, January 2nd.
We spoke with Senator Jeremy England from Jackson County about what he is expecting to see on the Senate floor next year.
Tackling Mississippi’s healthcare issues is a top issue for both Republicans and Democrats.
England says the two may have differing visions on how to improve healthcare.
He, for one, is not interested in expanding Medicare this year but wants to work with the house to help local hospitals.
A lesser-known issue he envisions Congress tackling is social media access to minors.
Minors have become victims of catfishing and sextortion and England would like to pass a bill that protects children from retaliatory photos or videos on the internet.
Senator England expressed his excitement to return to work for the people of Mississippi.
“We all know that these are tough and trying times that our constituents are going through right now. With the economy, anxiety is high. The healthcare issue is out there,” England said. “And one thing that I love about our state legislature is that we can all come together and talk about ways to positively impact all of our constituents in Mississippi.”
Other items he knows there will be conversation about are the ballot initiative process, school choice for disabled children, and taxes.
