Senator Hyde-Smith addresses cabinet rumors

Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith is addressing speculation that she’s being considered for a position in President-Elect Donald Trump’s cabinet.
There’s been no official word from the president-elect’s office, but the senator’s statement mentions the possibility of being asked to serve as Secretary of Agriculture.
Senator Hyde-Smith says in part that she plans to remain in the Senate and believes that she can be most valuable to the president-elect and Mississippians in the upper chamber in the years to come.
She also mentions that she plans to seek re-election for another Senate term in 2026.
Hyde-Smith served as Mississippi’s state commissioner of agriculture and commerce from 2012 to 2018.
