Select Harrison County schools participating in USDA Fresh Fruit and Veggies Program
The Harrison County School District is continuing its initiative to promote healthy eating across its schools.
As of now, 18 schools in the Harrison County School District are participating in the USDA’s Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program.
This means students will be receiving a free, nutritious snack every day when they come to school. The program teaches the youth healthy eating habits while educating students about the importance of a healthy diet.
Rebecca Summers, the child nutrition manager at West Harrison Middle School, says this program is helping students. “It’s great cause then children get an opportunity to try different fruits and vegetables that they normally wouldn’t have at home. I love being able to be a part of the children’s lives and serve them delicious food and not just fill their bellies but fill their hearts too.”
The program started this past Tuesday and will run the entire school year.
