Second Degree Murder Charge

One man is behind bars following the shooting death of former New Orleans Saints football player Will Smith.

Police say the former defensive end and his wife were rear-ended in New Orleans on Saturday night.

They say 34-year old smith exchanged words with Cardell Hayes the driver who hit him.

Officers say Hayes then shot Smith and his wife.

Smith died at the scene and his wife was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Hayes has been charged with second degree murder.
