Second arrest made in cop murder, suspect’s brother charged
A second arrest was made this morning in connection with the Sunday night killing of a police officer.
Twenty-one year-old Davian Atkinson is charged with accessory after the fact and is being held on a $500,000 bond at the Harrison County Jail.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department website, Gulfport police arrested Davian Atkinson just after 1 a.m. Sources say Davian is the older brother of 19-year-old Darian Atkinson, who police arrested and booked last night in the Harrison County Jail.
Darian is charged with capital homicide of a law enforcement officer.
Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson tells News 25 he appreciates the community’s support and all law enforcement agencies aiding the case. “Any way you look at it, he’s a brother of ours. Regardless of whether he works for a different agency, or federal agency, or state agency, he’s somebody that we will be able to work with daily. So, that family is a strong bond. We believe in that family. And I think it brought some type of closure to the family.”
Sheriff Peterson tells News 25 both Davian and Darian Atkinson should have their initial court appearances some time tomorrow.
