Second annual First Responder Banquet
The Hancock County community gathered together to recognize those who put their lives on the line for us on a daily basis.
The Waveland Community Unity Organization held their second annual appreciation banquet for all of the first responders. Law enforcement, firemen, paramedics, and dispatchers were specially recognized throughout the community with not only a meal, but 16 first responders received special recognition awards for protecting and serving the county.
One officer explains that it’s a good feeling to see the community come together to honor law enforcement. Lt. Abe Long said, “It’s nice to have that community involvement anytime. I think that too often that we’re more recognized for the bad things that are happening or officers that are giving us bad names and that’s not really the case 99 percent of the time out there.”
The Waveland Community Unity Organization explains that even though they cannot repay our public servants enough for what they do they hope that a little recognition will fill some of the pay.
