SEC Media Days: Mississippi State Bulldogs

After nine years with the same head coach getting used to a new one takes some time, but first-year head man Joe Moorhead doesn’t have any to waste as the next in line at Mississippi State.

Today, the former Penn State offensive coordinator took part in SEC Media Days for the first time with plenty of questions to answer regarding the transition from Dan Mullen. The now Florida head man is the second winningest coach in MSU history and led the Bulldogs to eight of the program’s 21 bowl games.

The only thing missing is an SEC championship and senior QB Nick Fitzgerald thinks they have the right man for the job.  “You always hear the rumors every year. Dan Mullen is going here, Dan Mullen is going there. And then he walked in the team meeting room and kind of said hey guys, I don’t even know what to say but I’m leaving and then kind of walked out. So it was really real at that point, but our AD Mr. Cohen did a great job finding a new coach and Coach Moorhead brought in a great staff so I’m really excited to play for him.”

Moorhead said, “I think Mr. Cohen brought me here to elevate the program from good to great, and if you’re not talking about it and if attitude truly reflects leadership, I don’t think there’s any harm in us talking about wanting to and our capability of winning a championship or else I shouldn’t be here. I should have stayed at Penn State.”

Last season, Mississippi State went 9-4 with a Taxslayer Bowl victory over Louisville, but lost the Egg Bowl to Ole Miss.
