Sean Payton introduced as Denver Broncos head coach Monday
After spending 16 years with the New Orleans Saints, it’s been a while since Sean Payton has been a first-year head coach. That changed yesterday upon his formal introduction with the Denver Broncos.
Payton and his orange tie making things official at the team’s introductory press conference where he spent about 12 minutes at the podium, giving an opening statement.
His final thoughts regarding the state of the franchise upon his arrival in New Orleans versus his departure and how the Saints went from one playoff win pre-2006 to ten playoff wins all-time including a Super Bowl 44 championship. Coach Payton said, “New Orleans wasn’t viewed that way, and I said, we will be soon. And what I love is that my son and my daughter and anyone in their generation would look at the Saints as a team that you had to contend with year in and year out for the last 16 years, won a lot of games. And ultimately, that’s what it’s about. And so hopefully today, we’ve won this day and hopefully we win the draft, but more importantly, it’s winning in the fall and building a championship that this city and most of you have had the chance to experience, so we’ll go from there.”
Speaking of the draft, the Broncos don’t have a pick until the third round when they pick back-to-back at numbers 68 and 69.
