Seabees to Hold Active Shooter Drill
Our men and women in the armed forces hope to never face an active shooter situation. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be prepared if that nightmare ever became a reality.
To assure they are ready, on Friday morning, the Gulfport Seabee Base will be holding a routine exercise allowing crucial training for first responders. These first responders will be trained on how to respond in the event of an active shooter on base. Friday’s exercise should last from 8 a.m. until about noon.
Seabee representatives say this is an event they put on every year and it should go smoothly but drivers in the area could experience slight delays. Commanding Officer Captain Cheryl Hansen said, “While the exercise itself is actually conducted on the base, folks may experience some congestion on the roads that lead up to the gates because there may be an opportunity as part of the exercise where we would need to close the gates as a part of our pre-planned responses. We secure the area until we know our first responders are responding appropriately and then those gates would be open.”
Captain Hansen tells New 25 that motorists can expect those gates to be closed sometime between 8 and 10 tomorrow morning.
