Seabees Remember Pearl Harbor Attack

A commemoration ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack was held at the Naval Construction Battalion Center. This especially hit home for the men and women on the Gulfport base. Seabees were created as a direct result from the attack on Pearl Harbor.
A slideshow played for the hundreds gathered, showing pictures of that tragic day in history. Even though the attack on Pearl Harbor happened many years before the Seabees in the auditorium were even born, officials on base want them to know where they came from. Commodore of Naval Construction Group Two Captain Paul Odenthal said, “As we look to the forward, we have to understand the past and where we’ve come from and our history and we want to make sure everyone understands where we came from and the resolve of that generation. We truly are. Our traditions come from that time frame and from those who went before us as well and as we continue to defend our nation we stand with resolve with those who have gone before us.”
The Seabees celebrate their 75th birthday in March 2017.
