Seabee Day is Saturday in Gulfport
The Naval Construction Battalion Center will be buzzing this weekend but not only with Seabees.
The annual Seabee Day event opens the base to the public for free carnival rides, music and a chicken wing eating contest. Gulf Coast residents get the chance to speak with Seabees and learn more about what the base provides to the community. Attendees can also expect to see military demos, weapons displays, and come face to face with the trucks the men and women use.
NCBC Public Affairs Officer Rob Mims said, “What we like to do is open it up and just make sure the community knows we want to be a part of the community. We have a great community in South Mississippi. We love this community. We live, work, worship in this community. We want to open it up and let them see what their tax dollars are going for.”
Seabee Day 2016 runs tomorrow from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Non-Department of Defense ID card holders must park at Milner Stadium at 1403 38th Avenue in Gulfport near Memorial Hospital. Free shuttles are provided and start running at 8:45 a.m.
No coolers, backpacks, explosives, firearms or pets are allowed on base.
