Sea Wolves returning to the Coast after Harrison Co. supervisors ok lease agreement
Harrison County supervisors vote to bring hockey team back to Coast
Pro hockey will return to the Coast. You can welcome the Sea Wolves back home to Biloxi in October.
Today, the Harrison County Board of Supervisors approved a lease between the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Coast Coliseum.
It’s official, you can welcome the Mississippi Sea Wolves back home to Biloxi. Biloxi Pro Hockey COO Joe Pace said, “To hear them all vote yes and it be unanimous, it was awesome to seal the deal like that and know hockey is coming back now.”
Pace is also a player on the team. “I look forward to my first game as a Sea Wolf and the whole process. This summer we’re going to be out and about in the community, doing a lot of stuff with sponsors. It’s going to be exciting to really get the ball rolling over the next week or two.”
The team will play as part of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. The vote comes after the audience turnout was tested back in December. The Coliseum hosted three neutral site games. Coliseum Executive Director Matt McDonnell said, “It’s been over seven years since hockey has last played here and there were a lot of questions as to whether it would work. The local fan base certainly showed us that it will work. We’re going to be playing hockey in October. We’re excited.”
Two of those games in December set attendance records for the Federal Prospects Hockey League without fans even having a home team to root for. Sea Wolves fan Richard Coyne said, “I’m really looking forward to October. It’s going to be a long seven, eight months, but it’s coming. That’s what we all wanted. We showed our support and it’s going to happen.”
Director of Sales and Marketing Jerod Campbell said, “For the three games I was able to bring my kids and they took pictures with Hook. It was kind of cool because I took pictures with Hook when I was their age. It’s neat to have that second generation.”
Vice President of Sales Kory Dumond said, “To bring that back and introduce a whole new set of fans to hockey and how it is done at the Coliseum, to be a fan of the Sea Wolves, it’s something we’re really looking forward to and sharing with everyone.”
Organizers said they hope to have tickets on sale in the next couple of weeks.
