Scuba Steve and his brother start lawn care business in honor of their late father
Scuba Steve Clothing Company does more than just clothes now. After the passing of his dad, Steve and his brother started doing lawn care in their dad’s memory.
Steve, his grandpa, and dad were all diagnosed with different cancers the same week. After eight years of battling liver cancer, Steve’s dad, Ron Johnson, died on July 1st. Steve and his grandfather are in remission.
Ron Johnson had a liver transplant and Steve said the medicine he took for his transplant caused skin cancer. Every week, a piece of his skin was cut to remove the skin cancer.
Steve and his brother, Marc, started the lawn business two days ago. So far, they have cut 50 lawns, splitting profits with Dr. Allison Wall’s Hope Foundation at Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Wall was the oncologist who took care of Steve, his dad, and his grandpa. Steve said, “I’m in the house depressed. It’s me and my dog and I’m like look what better way to tribute dad. Let’s make dad smile from Heaven. Let’s do this. So, he loved lawn work. As kids, he was out from 8 in the morning until 7 at night and he would say look how this lawn looks. We want to do that for everyone on the Gulf Coast. I lost a piece of myself with him in that casket and my brother lost a piece of him as well and we’re regaining it out here doing what he loved. God, I miss him.”
