Scuba diving Santa feeds sharks at Rio Aquarium
A biologist dressed as Santa Claus dove into an aquarium in Rio de Janeiro on Friday to feed the sharks and raise awareness of the importance of protecting marine life.
Volmer de Aguiar Salvador, a biologist who has been working at the Aqua Rio aquarium for 2 years, plunged into the largest tank in the red and white colors of Santa to the delight of the children who were visiting, and the hungry sharks.
“It was very nice, we were not expecting that,” said Raquel Cabral, a tourist visiting Rio de Janeiro together with her six-year-old daughter Giovana.
Santa’s scuba diving forays in the aquarium will take place daily until the end of the year when a troupe of mermaids will arrive to replace him.
