School bus safety demonstration

School transportation directors from across the state were on the Coast today to learn about new school bus technologies.

A school bus safety technology demonstration was held today the Scarlet Pearl as a part of the Mississippi Association of Pupil Transportation Winter Conference.

Technologies such as a predictive stop arm system with Doppler radar sensors and collision avoidance and mitigation technologies were featured from safety organizations such as Bendix and Seon. Joy Walsh with Seon says that these technologies are created with major goals in mind. “Bus safety, and ultimately, to keep students safe, that is the goal of every transportation director and ultimately every technology that we’re putting on the buses, be it cameras, stop arm cameras, or essentially the predictive stop arm.”

Attendees of the demonstration also had the chance to participate in interactive ride-alongs on buses to see the technology in action firsthand.
