School Bus Driver Appreciation Week

School bus drivers are the ones who greet our children every morning and make sure the trip to school is a safe one. That’s why this week has been dedicated to them as ‘School Bus Driver Appreciation Week.’

It was all smiles this morning at River Oaks Elementary as the administration did something special just for bus drivers. Each driver was handed breakfast and told how much they are appreciated from the staff and the assistant principal.

This was done all over the school district. For the bus drivers, they say it means the world. Gulfport School District Bus Driver Deloris Bleveins said, “It just makes me feel warm and happy inside that somebody actually took the time to actually think of something like that. They definitely go above and beyond just to make us feel welcomed and appreciated.”

This week coincides with ‘National School Bus Safety Week’ to remind drivers and the students that keeping the kids safe is not only the driver’s job, but a community effort.
