School Bus Accident Sends 15 to the Hospital
Some scary moments this morning as a car collided with a school bus on its way to Harrison Central High School.
Highway Patrol tells News 25 a Toyota Camry was merging lanes on Highway 49 near Jim Banks Road when it clipped the front end of the school bus carrying 48 students. Fifteen students were taken to a local hospital for what officials call very minor injuries.
This is one of a few school bus accidents in our area recently and Highway Patrol officials are reminding drivers to pay attention on their commutes. Corporal Benjamin Seibert with Mississippi Highway Patrol said, “As far as school traffic, people do need to be mindful and watch distractions in their vehicle, paying attention to everything that’s around them. All it takes is one mistake and we’ve got something real bad happening.”
During the month of October the Mississippi Highway Patrol is launching its “Pay Attention, Pay a Fine,” program.
Highway Patrol is increasing enforcement in an effort to encourage more drivers to pay attention while driving.
