Scarlet Pearl Gets the Go Ahead
In just two weeks, D’iberville will be opening the doors to its first casino. Now that the building is up to code, it’s all systems go. News 25’s Kristen Durand gives us a closer look at today’s major milestone for the Scarlet Pearl Casino.
Back in July 2014, the plot of land that would be the Scarlet Pearl Casino was just a pile of dirt as the city celebrated its first casino groundbreaking. Fast forward to today, as Roy Anderson Corp. officially hands over the keys to casino owners, as the casino passes its final inspections and is granted its certificate of occupancy. Roy Anderson Corp. Project Executive Jason Taylor said, “It’s a great feeling but it’s also bittersweet at the same time. We’ve really grown very close to not only the owners but the sub-contractors, the design team, the consultants, everybody. So, it’s a little sad to see that come to an end but we’re also very excited to reach this milestone.”
The hard hats can officially come off now that inspection teams have determined the building is safe for its December 9th grand opening, three weeks ahead of schedule. City of D’iberville Building Official Hank Rogers said, “They were looking at the first of the year then the 15th of December but because of Roy Anderson’s efforts and I think the effort on behalf of the city of D’iberville and our inspection team, we were able to shorten the length of time which made it easier for them to be able to open sooner.”
In just two weeks, the building will be flooded with guests ready to get their hands on all the table games and over 1,300 slot machines. When they need a break from all the gambling, they can walk right across the street to the casino’s 36-hole mini-golf course, Lava Links. “The goal here is sometime this summer to have a golf tournament where there’s cash prizes awarded to whoever shoots the lowest game, like you do in golf,” said Rogers.
During the final countdown, the casino will still be busy training employees and putting the finishing touches on the Coast’s newest gaming establishment.
