Saucier man charged with arson, assault on deputies

A Saucier man is charged with arson and for attacking officers who responded to a fire.

Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said 62-year-old Mark Theodore Gaston of Bethel Road is charged with arson and two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. He was taken to the Harrison County jail and bond has been set at $750,000.

Deputies were on patrol Tuesday when they saw a fire on Bethel Road and turned into the driveway, where they were confronted by the homeowner, identified as Gaston.

Gaston was in his vehicle and when deputies approached, Gaston tried to hit the deputies, who jumped out of the way while Gaston fled.

Investigators determined Gaston was responsible for setting the house on fire and warrants were issued for his arrest. He was located in his parked vehicle on Martha Redmon Road in Saucier and taken into custody.
