Saucier Elementary students return for the first day of school

It is the first day back to school for the Harrison County School District and one elementary class is off to a far-out start.

It’s a groovy first day of school for kindergarten students at Saucier Elementary as they begin their scholastic careers.

Young scholars will be learning the essential tools to further advance their math, reading, and science skills.

The curriculum also includes a writing and Saxon-phonics programs, aiming to improve student’s literacy skills.

Second year Kindergarten teacher Amber Watkins says it’s rewarding to teach our future leaders. “It’s something that I really enjoy, but I take it very serious. So, it’s a lot of pressure, I mean, you, as a kindergarten teacher, you’re starting the foundation. So, it’s, we have to make sure that we’re spending every day making sure that they’re getting every bit of knowledge they need to be strong readers.”

It was also the first day of school for the Ocean Springs School District and the Diocese of Biloxi.
