Salvation Army’s Center of Hope facility opening soon

The Salvation Army is preparing to open its new Center of Hope.

The center will be open in about two weeks and provide a food pantry, showers, a laundry room, computers, mental health services, and job coaching all at one location.

The center’s two-bedroom apartments will also offer a first step housing program to six families. They’ll start screening eligible families on Monday.

The goal is to help those families become self-sufficient after completing their program.

They’ll be providing financial and parenting counseling and have enriching activities for children like music lessons. Salvation Army Area Commander Major Jerry Friday said, “Of course I want to help the parents, but I want to make an impact on the lives of the children. If we can teach these kids that this generational poverty can stop with them, that there is hope, that they can have a good job and a good career than that’s what we want to instill in them and anything that we can help them kids, we’re going to do it.”

Officials will cut the ribbon on the new Center of Hope this Friday morning at 9:30. There will also be an open house for those interested in touring the facility.
