(WXXV) — The Salvation Army Mississippi Gulf Coast Area Command is opening their cold weather shelters Wednesday, Dec. 16 and Thursday, Dec. 17.

Shelters in Gulfport and Pascagoula will be open from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. The Gulfport shelter is located at 2019 22nd Street. The Pascagoula location is located at 3217 Nathan Hale Avenue.

The Salvation Army provides shelter to anyone in need when it is 40 degrees if precipitation is present, or 35 degrees and below without precipitation. They take the low wind chill factor into consideration.

Prepackaged meals will be served for dinner and breakfast. Food will be served bedside to discourage group gatherings.

All CDC guidelines must be followed including wearing masks and social distancing. Beds will be positioned 6 feet apart from each other to follow these guidelines.

Guests will need to fill out a survey about their health and provide a photo ID before entering. Space is limited and is provided on a first come first served basis.

The Pascagoula shelter will close if no one has arrived by 7:00 p.m.
