Salvation Army cuts the ribbon on the new Center of Hope
A dedication and ribbon cutting took place today in celebration of the official opening of the Center of Hope.
In April 2021, Salvation Army broke ground on the Center of Hope in Gulfport and now the facility is officially open. The center has eight two bedroom furnished apartments that will house homeless families.
While being housed at the center, families will have to participate in a six month ‘Pathway of Hope’ program.
The facility also includes a community pantry, a cold weather shelter for men and women, and an expanded dining area. Salvation Army Commander Major Jerry Friday said, “Whatever we can do to help families get on their feet and as I have said over and over again, I want to help the parents. I want the parents to be successful, but my passion is for the children. I want the children to know that generational poverty can stop with them, that they have hope.”
The goal of the Center of Hope is to help families become self-sufficient after leaving the transitional housing facility.
