Salvation Army Center of Hope in Gulfport opens as cold weather shelter

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Another cold weather shelter, the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Gulfport opened its doors Monday for people who need a warm place to stay.

Temperatures are dropping below 35 degrees which means the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Gulfport is opening as a shelter.

Whenever the shelter is activated, doors open at 6 p.m. and the space is first come, first serve.

Dinner is always served to guests. The shelter’s doors close for lights out at 10 p.m.

The shelter is for people that are homeless or for those whose homes are not adequately heated.

A light breakfast is available to guests before the shelter closes the morning after a cold snap.

With more cold weather ahead, the shelter plans to reopen their doors Tuesday evening.

Whenever the temperature drops, the shelter seeks volunteers to help accommodate guests.
