Salvation Army Ambassador for Good Day event
To bring awareness to underprivileged communities across the Coast, the Salvation Army of the Mississippi Gulf Coast hosted an Ambassador for Good Day event.
This year, the Salvation Army set up a mock homelessness camp with local celebrities dressed in nice attire standing on the corner with a cardboard sign that said ‘need has no season.’
Some of the local celebrities included Miss Mississippi volunteer Rachel Shumaker, local Christian quartet singer Buddy Graves, and the new Salvation Army Area Commander Major Jerry Friday.
The event featured the Salvation Army canteen that provided water for those passing by. “We are trying to raise awareness. Many people are very much aware of the fact that the Salvation Army is around during Christmas, sending kids to camp, or donating clothes. What they don’t realize is need has no season and the Salvation Army is here 365 days a year. So, something we are trying to do is raise awareness. We did a little take off with this Ambassador for Good Day.”
Salvation Army also promoted their social services location as well as talking people through the construction process of the Community Center of Hope.
