Saluting Seniors: Harrison County Sheriff’s Office thanks volunteers

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office thanked its volunteers with a lunch and awards.

These volunteers work alongside local law enforcement and have been nominated for their efforts.

The department gave out two awards. Frank Bridges received the Mary Lou Buchanan Award for his work serving senior citizens.

Ruth Sanders received the John and Patty Caranna Service Award, which is for senior citizens who volunteer in their community.

Sanders has been a volunteer for 22 years and achieved more than 9,000 service hours in the last 13 years with the department.

Lieutenant Lincoln tells us how seniors are doing the work that often goes unseen.

“They are just so beneficial to everything we’re doing. We have volunteers at the Sheriff’s office, we have volunteers, you’ve seen them, in the hospital, volunteers that go into the jail,” Lieutenant Robert Lincoln, HCSO community relations, said. “We have volunteers that show up to the jail just to do bible study with our prisoners. There are so many volunteers out there every day that are making a difference in this world.”

These volunteers offer assistance to seniors. Email triad@harrisoncountysheriff.com if you need assistance. If you would like to volunteer, call (228) 869-0412
