Salute to the Military

Tonight the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce hosted its 40th annual Salute to the Military at the Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi.

The annual salute continues a tradition of bringing the nation’s top military leaders to the Coast to join in tribute to our local neighbors in uniform. The evening included a cocktail reception and a ceremonial program and dinner.

Admiral Charles Ray, vice commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, was the featured speaker at tonight’s event.

Marcia Smith, a senior nurse for the Surgical Operations Squadron at Keesler Air Force Base, tells News 25 this was her first year attending and says it’s an honor to be at the tribute. “I get to see the level of appreciation that the Biloxi community has for us as veterans and it reinforces the good feeling, the good thoughts and ideas that I’ve always received from the community as a whole.”

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce also presented the Thomas V. Fredian Community Leadership Award at tonight’s event. The award honors those military personnel who go above and beyond to become involved in supporting their local community.
