Saints Report: Saints lose consecutive games for first time in 2021

From early 2017 to late 2020, the New Orleans Saints produced a streak of 47 straight regular season games without back-to-back defeats, but now, the Saints have lost consecutive games three times in their last 24 outings.

This time, those back-to-back losses both decided by just two points. First to the Atlanta Falcons in week nine and then to the Tennessee Titans 23-21 on Sunday.

The Saints have only led for a combined six minutes and 16 seconds during those two games, but continue to find themselves in contention late in the fourth quarter.

Trevor Siemian hooked up with Marquez Callaway for a 15-yard touchdown strike with less than two minutes to go before a potential game-tying two-point conversion came up short.

Two missed extra points looming large in the end, but at the end of the day, there may not be another team in the league that’s doing more with less without starting quarterback Jameis Winston, wide receiver Mike Thomas, and in week ten, running back Alvin Kamara. Head Coach Sean Payton said, “It’s the NFL and that’s part of the deal. And I hear you. I thought the way we approached this game, you’ve got to be able to still play. And that’s the one thing we’ve been able to do, fight through it. So, we’ll continue to do that.”

Running back Mark Ingram said, “Those guys are irreplaceable. Tops of their position in the league. But I think we have a great team that has a next man up mentality, and we want to make those guys proud while they’re healing and getting healthy and bring victories home so they can get healthy and continue our push to be great. Continue our push for a championship.”

One piece of silver lining, in the third quarter Mark Ingram broke Deuce McAllister’s all-time franchise rushing record of 6,096 yards.
