Saints Report: New Orleans Saints vs. Cincinnati Bengals
A house divided for a lot of Saints fans at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans Sunday with the hometown Saints hosting the Cincinnati Bengals, led by former LSU quarterback and Heisman winner Joe Burrow and former LSU wide receiver Jamarr Chase, who hooked up nine times for 221 yards and two touchdowns the last time they played in the dome in their 2020 National Championship game victory over Clemson.
Andy Dalton starting for the third straight week in place of the injured Jameis Winston.
Saints lose 30-26, falling to 2-4 on the season. Saints Head Coach Dennis Allen said, “I thought we had the right game plan, and I thought for the most part, for the better part of the game, I thought we executed that game plan. I thought the game came down to the red zone. We had some opportunities to get off the field on third down in the red zone. We didn’t do that, and we didn’t score enough touchdowns in the red zone and therein lies the difference in the game.”
Dalton said, “It is frustrating. I mean we’ve got to take pride in being at our best in those moments, and we weren’t today. We weren’t able to find a way to convert on the third down on that last drive. I mean four-minute situation, you’d love to drive the ball down and hold onto the ball the whole time. But we weren’t at our best in that situation.”
Quick turnaround for the Saints who hit the road for Thursday Night Football in week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals.
