Saints, Rams on crash course for rematch

There’s that scene in the movies where the good guy puts the bad guy in the back of the police car and before the good guy slams the door, the bad guy says ‘I’ll see you soon.’ Well, that’s the same way it felt leaving the Superdome when the Saints beat the Rams in November.

Even though that 45-35 victory ended up being the difference in home field advantage, it was no surprise to see Los Angeles punch their return ticket to the Big Easy. The Rams and Saints ended the regular season with the second and third ranked scoring offenses in the league, respectively, and both teams finished out with equal marks of 13-3.

Even the birthday boy, Drew Brees, was predicting a rematch. “Love the opportunity that we have to play that game here, in front of our home fans. We’ve always said the regular season puts you in a position to have this opportunity, right? We’ve got a great team coming to town, right? And you go back to our regular season matchup with those guys, just had a feeling that I knew what our goals were and we hoped to be in this position. I had a feeling that they would be as well.”

The winner of Sunday’s game will advance to Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta.

Former Saints running back Deuce McAllister was in Biloxi today opening his new restaurant. After going over the menu, he also went over what’s on tap for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game between the Saints and the Rams. “Started slow, obviously from an offensive standpoint. Defensively, didn’t play as well in the first quarter but after that holding a team to 100 yards speaks for itself. I mean but when you look at it, I think this crowd is going to play a major factor. The home crowd, being that they can affect how the Rams operate. For the Saints, it’s going to come down to health. Up front, offensive line, you’ve got guys beat up, playing hurt but those guys battled and so you’re playing a formidable defense in the Rams. Aaron Donald is probably the defensive player of the year. You’re going to have to be able to slow him down, you won’t stop him, but slow him down and have a good plan and it should be a fun game.”

Deuce concluded the interview by giving a 40th birthday shout out to Drew Brees.
