Saints QB Jameis Winston healthy and ready to roll in 2022
No one said life after Drew Brees would be easy, especially when the guy in charge of replacing him goes down with a torn ACL just seven games into the 2021 season.
But Jameis Winston says he’s healthy and ready to roll heading into 2022.
Winston was certainly effective in the games he did play last year, leading the Saints to a record of 5-3 with more than 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns to just three interceptions.
The number one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Winston says his knee injury, as well as a recent pre-season foot injury, have given him a newfound appreciation for his body and the rehab process. “I learned so much about my body when I had the ACL, just the importance of other parts of your body being overcompensated because you’re over-using something else. So just a wholistic body, everything about your body, you’ve got to be able to work certain things. Just because my knee is hurting doesn’t mean that I need to work my knee. I need to work my hips, right? I need to work my ankles. You’ve got certain things that we’re all just – our bodies are so symmetrical, right? You’ve got your wrists. What are your wrists on your bottom half? Your ankles. You’ve got your shoulders up top. What are your shoulders? Your hips. You’ve got your elbows. What are your elbows? Your knees, right? So, it’s symmetrical and you’ve just got to work different parts.”
Winston and the Saints kick off the 2022 season against their NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons at noon Sunday.
