Saints playing first true home game Sunday against the Giants
Having been displaced for over a month due to Hurricane Ida, the Saints truly know there’s no place like home.
After bouncing around from AT&T Stadium to TCU’s practice facility to playing three games on the road, the Saints finally returned to New Orleans Sunday following their 28-13 win over the Patriots.
Week one, New Orleans was slated to host the Packers. However, the team’s season opener was moved to Jacksonville where the Saints technically captured their first home win 38-3.
This Sunday, the 2-1 Saints host the 0-3 Giants at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for the official home opener.
Unlike last season, the Superdome will be back at full-capacity, giving the Saints their traditional home-field advantage, courtesy of the Who Dat nation. Offensive lineman James Hurst said, “When we landed in New Orleans from Boston, the pilot or flight attendant she said welcome back to New Orleans and the whole plane just erupted. Everyone’s excited. Everyone’s so excited to be back, to be in the city, to be amongst the people of the city that love us so much. To help out where we can but also to be back in this building with all the resources that Ms. B’s given us.”
Quarterback Jameis Winston said, “I remember being on the other side, going against these fans. And I know how much of an impact that that affected me. Affected our team. So, I just think this community loves and embraces football more than a lot of communities that I– the community that I’ve been a part of. It’s just in the culture. Like I’m a kid from Alabama– I know about the Saints. Right? I know how they live and breathe football down here.”
Saints kick off against the Giants at noon on Sunday.
