Saints fans sound off on playoff game
The countdown until kickoff is on. Saints fans can’t wait for the playoff showdown Sunday in New Orleans against the Carolina Panthers.
Every Sunday, NFL fans pack local restaurants to watch their team play and a lot of them are decked out in Black and Gold, but not all of them. Saints fan David McDonnell said, “I was thoroughly excited to see them winning this season. I’m real excited to watch them play and I hope they will do real well against Carolina.”
Cam Newton fan Darrin Demouey said, “I mean every year, they get down to the end and they do good and then they get down to the end and they give it away.”
The most loyal Saints fans were there from the beginning. Buffalo Wild Wings Employee Robin Rayner said, “I grew up in a Saints family. From my mom, my grandmother. It’s from my mom’s side of the family, not my dad. He didn’t really care. In fact, he fell asleep in the Superdome one time.”
These aren’t you father’s Aints anymore. New Orleans is eight years removed from its first Super Bowl title. “It’s just been incredible and they were betting that they would never ever do it and I have been saying that one time before I die I am going to see the Saints win the Super Bowl. It is going to happen and it was great that it came so quickly after Katrina and everything. That made it even better.”
Whether you want to watch the game at your favorite restaurant or from the comfort of your own home, Saints fans want to make sure they have a front row seat to the first home playoff game since 2011. “Me and my family usually do a little get together on the back porch for all the Saints game and we just kind of move the TV out there and set up a table and do a little BBQ and stuff. We just try and make sure we usually have the TV outside and everything and try to do the same stuff when there’s a winning season,” said McDonnell.
Considering this winning season came after yet another 0-2 start, that’s all the more reason to tune in, love ‘em or hate ‘em. “It was incredible. I mean all the smack talk that was going on in here when they lost two in a row. It was like ‘oh they are back to the same old Saints.’ I’m like ‘no, no, no just give them time. They will do it. They can do it,” said Rayner.
“Heartbroken ain’t going to be broken. They will give it up. I mean, they are famous for giving it up at the end,” said Demouey.
You can watch the Saints playoff game Sunday at 3:30 on WXXV Fox.
