Saints DT still undergoing medical evaluation
Today was the last day of organized team activities for the New Orleans Saints and still no sign of defensive tackle Nick Fairley. Not because he’s exercising his right to make OTA’s optional, but instead as a result of his ongoing medical evaluation.
Head Coach Sean Payton says Fairley wants to play and be around the team, but that’s only if he’s able to get medical clearance. The veteran run-stopper is awaiting a third opinion on a heart issue that was flagged about the same time he signed his new four year contract back in March.
Worst case scenario is Fairley never plays another down in the NFL, but for now Payton says time will tell. “You know, a little surprised and there’s two ways to look at it. The potential bad news is you don’t play football again. The potential good news is you lead a healthy life with the condition that you know you have and treat accordingly. In the event that there’s enough confidence that he can play, then we broach that when the time comes.”
Next up for the Saints is mandatory mini-camp, running June 13th through the 15th.
