Saints are back-to-back NFC South Champs
Once upon a time, the NFC South was a division of parity with no team winning back-to-back titles for the first 13 years following its inception in 2002, but those days are over and that’s good news for the New Orleans Saints.
Yesterday, the Black and Gold locked up the crown with a 28-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, joining the Carolina Panthers as the only other team to repeat.
In addition, the Saints have now won the division five times more than anyone else since the arrival of Drew Brees in 2006. “Listen, each season stands alone. I feel like it is building blocks. Last year was a building block for this year. And obviously, we still have a lot of work left ahead of us. But goal number one was to win the division and win the division again, and we were able to do that.”
Head Coach Sean Payton said, “One of the things I said prior to the game is when it’s all done and when we’re all finished, it’s not going to be the material things you miss. It’s going to be like right now, this is what you’re going to miss. And so we had that opportunity going in, and we’re all in the business of trying to make memories.”
Paired with a Rams loss, the Saints are now back in first place atop the NFC playoff picture.
